Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice.     Job Description Summary
    The incumbent will provide a wide range of support to the Department of Genetics Chair's office, to the Vice Chair, and to faculty within the Department. Activities include coordination of regular seminar series, faculty meetings, and educational activities of the Department. S/he will work with other departments to invite/schedule speakers, coordinate travel arrangements, schedule, and honorariums/reimbursements for speakers, escorting visitors, and digital and print advertising. S/he will provide customized administrative support to faculty in the Department of Genetics, including: calendar support, coordinating meetings, travel arrangements, reimbursements, postdoctoral recruiting, edit/format/file correspondence including CV and grants, and running errands. S/he will provide administrative support for the Vice Chair and the Educational Officer. S/he will assist with the operational issues and administration of the Genetics T32 and other educational/training programs run by the Department. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, (CoS) Penn Genetics, s/he will help support the complex communications within the Department. With direction from the CoS and Vice Chair, s/he will be responsible for promoting the Department's research, practice and educational initiatives through written and oral communications and visual content across a wide variety of platforms including local and national print and electronic media outlets, and social media. S/he will help produce a wide variety of communications content, including marketing and promotional materials and e-newsletters and will help maintain the Penn Genetics web content. S/he will maintain a communications calendar related to broad Penn Genetics events. S/he will also assist with the daily operations of the Genetics Business office on an as needed basis. This position requires extensive email and telephone contact at multiple levels, both internal and external to the University and routine correspondence to outside faculty, vendors and University staff, and requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
