Genetics Counselor jobs in Reading, PA

Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice.     Abraxas Academy is located minutes off of Exit 298 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Berks County and provides detention and treatment services for court committed youth.

    Salary: $22.00 Hourly

    Job Type: Full-time

    Shift: Second Shift

    Minimum Requirements:

    • An associate degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.
    • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
    • Valid Driver's License.

    As a Youth Detention Specialist, you will:

    Direct the daily activities of juvenile males in programming utilizing acceptable behavioral management principles. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities:

    • Interacts with and supervises clients during daily activities in a manner that ensures their safety and security.
    • Maintains regular communication with supervisor and co-workers.
    • Provides effective facility security including conducting headcounts, room checks, and observing client movement.
    • Observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately.
    • Processes intakes and screens clients according to program policy.
    • Observes activities and responds accordingly including emergency situations including evacuation, CPR, or first aid).
    • Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.

    Hiring Requirements:

    • Associate’s degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.
    • Non-communicable diseases physical exam.

    • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.

    • Ability to work overtime as required.

    • Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks; including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.

    • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
