CADC, Substance Use Counselor
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated, person centered, substance use counselor to help provide support and guidance for our clients. In this role, you will be responsible for completing comprehensive diagnostic assessments, developing individualized treatment and recovery plans, and identifying behaviors that impede client success in recovery. You will also be required to facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
To ensure success, substance use counselors should be familiar with using evidence-based treatment methods, feel comfortable collaborating with a treatment team and other community service providers, referring clients to detox, residential treatment and demonstrate excellent skills in clinical documentation.
Preferred candidates will have completed an associate’s degree program, at minimum, in an addiction and recovery/Human Services field.
Substance Use Counselor Responsibilities:
- Managing all aspects of a case from date of entry to date of discharge.
- Evaluating client’s physical and mental behaviors.
- Completing Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessments.
- Placing clients in appropriate levels of care.
- Developing appropriate, individualized treatment and recovery plans.
- Facilitating individual and group counseling sessions.
- Monitoring clients over time to assess treatment progress.
- Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and departments of correction.
- Identifying behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery.
- Pre-employment and random drug testing.

- CADC-R, CADCI, CADCII, CADCIII required,

- Substance Use Counselor Qualifications:
- Associate degree in substance dependency counseling, human services field or a bachelor's degree with coursework in substance dependency.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
- Ability to facilitate a strong therapeutic alliance with clients.
- Previous experience with the treatment of substance use disorders.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems and clinical documentation.
- Experience with co-occurring substance use and mental health problems.
- Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services’ (SAMHSA) best practice indicators.
- In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
