Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Job Summary
The Psychologist/Counselor will facilitate the normal developmental process of Rensselaer students and assist students whose normal developmental process is being impeded by adjustment problems and other disorders. The Psychologist/Counselor will work with students individually and in groups, as well as proactively work with the Rensselaer Community to create an environment that will allow students to maximize their personal growth. The Psychologist/Counselor will also develop and implement mental health prevention and education programs.

Minimum Qualifications for Applicants for Appointment as Counselor II/Social Worker
* Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field required.
* Five (5) years of experience, with at least 3 years being post-licensure.
* Licensed to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor
(LMHC) in the state of New York. For applicants from other states or those who are license eligible, must
be licensed at the time of employment.
Minimum Qualifications for Applicants for Appointment as Counselor II/Psychologist
* Ph. D. in counseling or clinical psychology
* Licensed to practice in New York State
* Five (5) years of experience, with at least 3 years being post-licensur
Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
* Clinical experience with young adult/adolescent populations is especially desired
* Clinical work experience in a higher education setting is helpful
* Experience with electronic health record systems
* Clinical experience with at least one of traditionally underserved student population and/or International students
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
* Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
* Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
* Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form
* Ability to effectively communicate information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the individuals
* Ability to assess mental status in patients and to provide treatment options
