Description
The Staff Scientist/Geologist in Training is responsible for the year-round collection of field data and the preparation of figures and reports for environmental assessments, site remediation, industrial permitting and groundwater supply investigations. The position is in a dynamic team environment with multiple crossover services associated with geotechnical and construction engineering.
Requirements
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
· Collect data – e.g. soil descriptions, drilling logs, water levels, collect field samples, geologic, environmental, operate field instruments, and hydrogeologic information
· Oversee contractors – e.g. drillers, backhoe operators, laboratories, geophysical surveys
· Desktop review and research –review scientific and engineering reports, review geologic and soils maps, topographic maps, aerial photography
· Prepare written reports, drawings, and tables with information collected including maps and logs – Use of computer e.g. CAD, Excel, Word, PA1Call, etc.
· Interpret hydrogeologic concepts such as groundwater flow and transport of contaminants
· Review and understand environmental regulations as they pertain to permitting and environmental reporting.
Essential Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology, 0-3 years professional experience.
· Driver’s License
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Good communication skills, both written and oral
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook), CAD preferred
· Comprehend project goals, questions, roles, scope, respond or coordinate response through supervisor
· Soil and Geology Classification, map reading skills, field training, hydrogeology
· Ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines and budgets
· Focus attention on job at hand – Maintain focus when working on multiple projects, while working in both office and field
Essential Position Requirements:
· Ability to work additional and/or nonstandard office hours, as required
· Occasional travel – possible overnight
· Must have working vehicle
· Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs. of equipment
Ability to walk through brush, up hills, etc.
