    TITLE: Quarry Geologist
    DEPARTMENT: Operations - Geology
    JOB GRADE: EX6
    FLSA STATUS: Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Quarry Manager (Dotted line to Senior Geologist Northeast)

    BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for understanding, collecting and managing quarry deposit geology and geologic information. Responsible for applying geologic knowledge, sampling, and plant requirements to assure that mined ore meets plant stockpile feed quality specifications. Collaboratively work with Plant Manager, Quality Control staff and Process Engineers to coordinate and manage ore feed requirement and to resolve ore quality issues. Work with Mine Planning team and Quarry Manager to develop balanced, optimized short term mine plans within the context of the Life of Mine Plan.

    Promote a safe work environment with Contractors and Omya staff to ensure that efficient production and development are completed safely and in accordance with both short and long-term plans in order to maintain adequate supplies of quality plant feed ores on budget.

    Conduct geologic mapping and geologic studies within the quarry to support updates to the geologic model. Define and conduct exploratory projects as proposed by Geology & Mining management..

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist with management of quarry operations to ensure that quarry production and development plans are being followed.
    • Plan and designate feed stone grade ore control based on historical methods, observations, and analyses of blasthole samples.
    • Monitor, track, and present plant quality control results related to feed stone grade selection and blending, ore processing, and maintenance of consistent feed stone to the plant.
    • Maintain, manage and present quarry geologic, production, 3D mapping and geospatial based blasthole and ore outline quality database for modeling, planning, and reconciliation purposes.
    • Complete annual ore planning with reconciliation and support updates of developed quarry reserves for quarry development planning.
    • Provide technical assistance for quarry permit applications, and environmental projects including monitoring as required.
    • Manage, conduct and document exploration drilling to assist in the evaluation of future reserves
    • Practice the Omya Values; Courtesy, Modesty, Integrity & Perseverance.
    • Special projects and other duties as assigned. Some travel may be expected with this position.

    QUALIFICATIONS: A university degree in geology, mine engineering or a suitable combination of appropriate education and experience, with at least 1 year of practical geologic experience gained primarily at hard rock open pit quarry operations.

    Advanced competency to use Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, GIS, and Geologic

    Excellent verbal and written communication / presentation; analytic, and observation skills, and the ability to work both as a member of a team and independently are required.

    Ability to multitask and prioritize, meet schedules and deadlines, and propose and evaluate ideas in continuous improvement environment

    Sound knowledge and interest in mining geology and QA / QC grade control methodology including database software.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
