    The Work You Will Do:

    This Professional Geologist position performs professional work under the direction of the Environmental Administrator for the Division of Water Resource Managements, Aquifer Protection/Underground Injection Control program located in Tallahassee, Florida. The ideal candidate will learn and become familiar with Underground Injection Control (UIC) and Aquifer Protection/Drinking Water Program federal & state rules, objectives, and the technical characteristics of the different types of UIC well systems.

     $54,690.24 - $66,000.00/annually (Commensurate with experience)

     

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    • Review and become knowledgeable of assigned UIC facilities, including permitting and compliances statuses; well construction and testing progress, local hydrogeology, site history, and monitoring program.
    • Plan and attend meeting and teleconference, coordinates with affected parties, government agencies and the general public, make project recommendations, and provides expert testimony. Keep supervisors informed of facility activities.
    • Review permit applications and provide technical review analyses and comments. Write Fact Sheets and assist in permit writing and reviews for assigned sites. Provide clear, concise, and consistent communication with the public, regulated community, and coworkers. Review lithologic, stratigraphic, hydrogeologic, and environmental interpretations as submitted by applicants in support of permit applications for injection wells, subsurface waste disposal, groundwater monitoring and cleanup.
    • File documents in the electronic data storage management system, Oculus, and update program and facility permit and compliance information in the databases, WACS, WACS COMET, PWS, and PA.
    • Acts as the database coordinator and developer. Perform QA/QC of data entered in WACS and PWS database. Provide District training on the database. Enter permitting and other analytical information in tracking sheets on SharePoint.
    • Perform reviews of facility-related technical documents and provide detailed and well-written comments. These Technical documents include mechanical integrity test results, monitoring data, and technical explanations.
    • Participate in hydrological analyses with other APP geologists and contribute solutions to complex issues.
    • Lead and manage the delineated areas program and research methodology to update program.
    • Manage the Source and Water Protection Program (SWAPP) coordinating with agencies to provide updates to well head protection areas. Mentor new employees to become knowledgeable of Aquifer Protection Program which administers the UIC program as delegated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in accordance with Part C of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of physical, geological or natural sciences relative to permitting UIC wells. .
    • Knowledge of state rulemaking process and procedures.
    • Ability to understand complex regulations.
    • Skill and ability to use computers and word processing software effectively and efficiently; prepare procedures, rules, and documents.
    • Skill in written and oral communication techniques.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to prepare technical reports.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments; work independently.
    • Ability to collect, analyze, evaluate, and interpret scientific and technical data; work well under pressure and deadlines; be detail oriented.
    • Knowledge of water quality criteria and testing parameters.
    • Ability to maintain a valid driver license and travel.

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Registration of a Professional Geologist in accordance with Florida Statue 492. 
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one-year of verifiable related experience; or Any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described in this posting, for a total of five years.

     

    Other Job-Related Requirements for this position:
