Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Government Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Assistant Director Parks & Recreation

  • Under general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Assistant Director plans, develops, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Parks and Recreation Department.  The position occupant will be considered a senior management class responsible for overseeing activities and projects.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Develops and implements departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
    • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; processes employee concerns and problems; directs work, counsels, and disciplines staff; completes employee performance reviews.
    • Assists with managing and directing, either personally or through subordinate supervisors, daily departmental activities; assigns projects or establishes project schedules and deadlines.
    • Conducts or supervises hiring interviews and monitors the hiring process and makes hiring recommendations to the Department Director.
    • Conducts staff and departmental meetings; promotes team building; develops action plans; delegates tasks and assignments; monitors adherence to personnel policies.
    • Approves travel and/or training requests and or related requisitions.
    • Attends various meetings and conferences as a representative of the department.
    • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information from the public, elected officials, employees, and other individuals; educates and informs citizens.
    • Monitors and evaluates all departmental programs and activities; monitors the daily operations of each division or section.
    • Assists in the development of a comprehensive operations and capital budget and assists in the preparation of the annual operating and capital department budget.
    • Coordinates the planning efforts among subordinate division or section superintendents.
    • Assists with preparation of long-range management and equipment purchase/replacement plans; prepares reviews and coordinates special program and project development. 
    • Establishes goals and objectives for employees; implements departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
    • Plans work operations to achieve program goals in each division or section.
    • Performs periodic inspections of all facilities; monitors minor construction or renovation projects.
    • Coordinates budget requests from subordinate superintendents; approves or disapproves requests based on justification.
    • Assists in the formulation of rules, and policies and procedures for the overall operation and management of the parks department and ensures said rules, policies and procedures are posted and enforced.
    • Monitors departmental revenue accounts.
    • Coordinates accreditation efforts and/or award nominations for the department.
    • Serves as a liaison between the Parks and Recreation Department and other outside agencies and civic organizations in the coordination of services for the community.
    • Seeks alternative means of supporting and financing department programs; writes grants, solicits funds, and volunteer staffing from large service groups, community organizations, and individuals.
    • Prepares reports on activities, programs, fee schedules and recommendations. 
    • Evaluates program proposals
    • Assume responsibility for all department operations in the absence of the Director.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration, Sports Management, Health and Physical Education, or closely related field required.
    • Seven years of professional related work experience that includes supervisory experience, budget management, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    • Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) if assigned job duties requiring the use of a vehicle

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Broad knowledge of the principles, practices, concepts and commonly used methodology of parks and recreation administration.
    • Ability to plan, implement, and supervise all aspects of a parks and recreation department.
    • Ability to develop and implement assessments of county-wide parks and recreation programs and activities.
    • Knowledge of or the ability to learn about occupational hazards and the ability to follow safety precautions.
    • Considerable knowledge in the design and development of parks and recreation facilities and their related programs.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with employees and the public.
    • Extensive knowledge of community resources.
    • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar
    • Knowledge of basic business mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
    • Knowledge of specialized software, materials, terminology, and forms essential to the assignment
    • Skill in creating, maintaining, and organizing accurate, detailed, and complete records in accordance with standard record-keeping procedures
    • Skill in effective inter-personal and public relations and customer service; excellent oral and written communication skills to satisfactorily resolve conflicts and issues, and to explain established policies and procedures to employees and the public.

    Salary: $79,232.19 annually, ($38.09 hourly) plus full benefits package
