Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Government Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job Description: Under the close supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, agency, or institution, learns to perform front-line and behind the scenes customer and other support services involving the review, processing and issuance of agency documents; provides information to customers regarding department/agency programs and services; does other related work as required.

    Civil Service Commission Requirements

    License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in the State of New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

    ADVANCEMENT: Applicants must successfully complete the six (6) month training period will be eligible for promotion to the title of Agency Services Representative 1, in accordance with NJ Civil Service Commission procedures.

    Residency: Pursuant to the “New Jersey First Act” N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), newly hired public employees are required to reside in the State of New Jersey, unless exempted under the law. If you do not reside in New Jersey, you have one (1) year after you begin employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey.

    Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenships to the United States.

    Veterans’ Preference: To qualify for New Jersey Veteran’s Preference/status, you must establish Veteran’s Preference through the Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs.
