Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Government Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     • Analyzes emerging and controversial public land issues.
    • Consults with management and other teams, develops and implements communication policies, plans, and strategies for a wide variety of diverse and often conflicting resource management programs.
    • Creates, writes and distributes a wide variety of materials to communicate information about BLM issues, programs and activities to key publics.
    • Maintains current knowledge of all Departmental and Bureau policy and program direction related to public land management and develops communications policy for implementation by the office and its subordinate echelons.
    • Develops and maintains professional, proactive, credible relationships with media outlets, including traditional and new media outlets.
    • Employs new and established communications research and planning principles to develop both strategic and crisis communications plans.
