Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Government Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. OSEA currently has one government relations specialist position open. This position works under the general supervision of the director of government relations and communications; plans and conducts research on pending and proposed legislation related to labor and education issues impacting membership; maintains a legislative bill tracking system; attends legislative hearings; participates in the planning, coordination, and implementation of association legislative and political programs; fundraises; promotes member involvement in the political process; advocates the association political agenda; maintains working relationships with members, politicians and public; provides testimony and debate at legislative hearings; and other related work as required. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major study in political science, labor relations, social sciences or related field. Two years of prior political campaign and/or lobbying experience is desirable. SALARY/BENEFITS Starting salary $71,268 per year, health benefits, 401(K), dental insurance and employer-provided automobile. JOB LOCATION The open position is located in the State Office in Salem, Oregon. Selected candidate may need to relocate.
