Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Government Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • Wilkes University invites applicants for a temporary, part-time Associate Director of Diversity Affairs. The Office of Diversity Initiatives (ODI) works collaboratively with a wide variety of constituencies throughout the University to ensure effective academic and social support for all students, faculty and staff with a broad social justice focus to develop a nurturing and empowering support system at Wilkes University. The office serves, but is not limited to historically marginalized undergraduate students, persons from Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, first generation, disabled, women and LGBTQ groups. The primary goal of the office is to foster appreciation for differences within the classroom and the community.

    The Associate Director will lead, support, and coordinate efforts across the University to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion and enrich the academic, social, and cultural experiences of members of the campus community. They will provide mentoring support and services for students while monitoring their academic progress and advocating for their interests. They will plan, implement, and assesses initiatives to increase success of a diverse student population, including building skills for effectiveness in a diverse world, celebrating differences, fostering learning across social and group boundaries, and building an inclusive community.

    Primary responsibilities include:

    • Developing, implementing and evaluating DEI initiatives, trainings and programs across the University
    • Working collaboratively to ensure effective academic and social support for all students with a broad social justice focus
    • Advise the Multicultural Student Coalition (MSC), coordinating the development and deployment of distinctive and cross-cultural programming for the campus community; Support and provide mentorship to other identity-based and cultural student clubs
    • Participate in campus-wide events such Open House, Accepted Students Day, Welcome Weekend, Summer Orientation sessions. Engage in different campus committees to provide a DEI lens and dialogues. Assist in strategic planning efforts for the overarching goals of the university.
    • Oversee work study and office operations, including events, programming, training, financial expenditures and other day to day activities.

    A master's degree is required. Preferred fields of study include counseling, social and behavioral sciences, and basic sciences. The ideal candidate will have prior experience five years of experience advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging with the ability to work with, advise and support the success of culturally, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse students. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong consensus and community building skills, event planning and presentation experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
