Government Affairs Manager implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Manager performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Manager creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Main Purpose of Job

    The Deputy Director provides legislative and regulatory drafting, review, and research�expertise to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary for Programs, Deputy Secretary for�Operations, Director Office of Government Affairs, and other DHS/LDSS management�staff. This includes researching and responding to queries regarding legislative and�regulatory history and overseeing the timely submission of all reports mandated by the�Maryland General Assembly. The Deputy Director oversees the review and submission�process for Joint Chairman’s Reports, as well as, statutory reports. This includes the�coordination with programs and the Office of the Secretary for review and approval from�executive leadership. The Deputy Director also oversees the work of the Regulations Coordinator, who reports�directly to the Deputy Director.�This involves ensuring that the administration of the regulations process is�timely, thorough and legally adequate and involves interaction with the Division of State�Documents and Joint Committee on Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review. The�Deputy Director also provides annual training and technical assistance throughout the year�in the drafting of regulations.

    Provides legislative and regulatory drafting, review, and research expertise. Researches and responds to queries regarding legislative and�regulatory history. Oversees the timely submission of all reports mandated by the�Maryland General Assembly. Liaises with members of the Maryland General Assembly to accomplish the policy�agenda of the Department and governing Administration. Oversees the work of the Regulations Coordinator. Supervises staff and oversees specific assignments.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:�Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, a J.D., or a related field�from an accredited college or university. Experience: Four�years experience in politics, legislative or policy office. Two�years of the required experience must have been in overseeing�policy development or policy analysis.�

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preference will be given to applicants�who possess the following preferred qualification(s).�Include clear and specific information on your application regarding�your qualifications. Two years experience with Google Workspace (formerly G-suite) Two years�experience leading small teams� Two years experience�managing short term projects and long term�projects.� Two years experience��of the preferred experience should have been working for the�Maryland General Assembly, the Maryland Department of Legislative�Services, or the Executive Branch of Maryland government.
