Being a Government Affairs Representative collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Monitors and analyses proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends and prepare reports and informational documents to inform and support business leaders. Additionally, Government Affairs Representative requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Government Affairs Representative work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     The Coordinator of External Affairs is responsible for leading external communications efforts
    that support the mission of LSMSA.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Contributing to the overall success of the school by creating and sharing accurate, timely
    information with the public
    • Developing and implementing a media relations plan that includes the type, frequency,
    and placement of known stories to be produced and submitted to media outlets over the
    course of the academic year
    • Writing, editing, and submitting content pertaining to the school in the form of press
    releases, articles, newsletters, news stories, features, profiles, etc. for both print and
    electronic media
    • Moderating communications between the school and various media outlets such as
    newspapers, radio stations, and television stations
    • Conducting interviews with and taking photos of target audiences as it relates to the
    development of stories
    • Ensuring that student permissions / waivers related to the use of their likeness in school
    materials are completed and archived
    • Acting as media spokesperson on behalf of the school, in conjunction with the executive
    director, to address questions, concerns, or complaints
    • Coordinating and managing the production schedule, printing deadlines, and distribution
    of multiple projects for both Enrollment Management and the LSMSA Foundation
    • Maintaining a print and electronic archive of all publications
    • Assisting with design of promotional materials
    • Serving as a liaison to the LSMSA Foundation Public Relations Committee and to other
    stakeholders who contribute to publicity projects
    • Managing activities of Parents Council on behalf of School and Foundation


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, or a
    related field
    • Previous experience in public relations, media relations, or marketing for a secondary
    school, university, or other education-related business or non-profit organization



    • Strong understanding of best practices in public relations and marketing
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
    • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude toward colleagues and other
    external constituencies
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
    • Ability to travel and to work flexible hours as necessary, including some evenings and

    weekends

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
    • Knowledge of desktop publishing and/or graphic design software
