Government Affairs Representative supports the implementation of strategic plans and engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities to achieve business goals. Liaises with government entities (federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Representative collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Monitors and analyses proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends and prepare reports and informational documents to inform and support business leaders. Additionally, Government Affairs Representative requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Government Affairs Representative work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.   • Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is currently accepting applications for the Coordinator of Government and Community Affairs position in the Communications and Marketing division . This position reports to the Vice President of Communications, Marketing & PR and will be located at at ATC’s Main/South Campus, is just South of Downtown Atlanta. The Director of Government and Community Affairs will interact with local, state, and federal legislative bodies and government agencies to represent and protect the College's business plans and interests.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • May oversee and manage a liaison program between the organization and legislative entities.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Researches and monitors government activities that could affect the College's business and clients.
    • Assists senior leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business and industry.
    • Builds and maintains professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
    • Joins trade associations and industry committees and seeks leadership roles. Collaborates with industry advocates to build areas of common interest.
    • Testifies before government committees in support of the organization and/or industry. Introduces legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Physical Requirements:

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Public Relations, or related field required; MBA or law degree preferred. Ten years of experience in advocacy or public policy required.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Strong government contacts at local, state, and federal levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
