    Duties

    Provides direct services through group and individual instruction and training to inmates on a variety of reentry related topics from the approved reentry programs guide or national reentry initiatives.

    Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of automated systems designed specifically to establish efficient methods for information collections and distribution.

    Serves as an in-house resource for other Reentry Affairs Coordinators (local, regional and national) in the BOP regarding pertinent research and outcome-based programs to avoid an unnecessary duplication of efforts and relates relevant findings to assist with day to day operational and long-term planning needs of the BOP.

    Prepares and submits reports for the institution, region, and central office monitoring of reentry, volunteer and related activities.

    Oversees the institution’s volunteer and citizen participation efforts and is responsible for cultivating and identifying volunteers and mentors to meet the program needs identified for the inmate population.

    Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

    Qualifications

    To be considered for the position, you must meet the following:

    Basic Requirements:
    GL-09 and GS-11:
    A. Degree: that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.

    OR

    B. Combination of education and experience - that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences, and that provided applicants with knowledge of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a 4-year degree as shown in A above.

    Evaluation of Education - Courses, such as sociology, correctional administration, criminal justice, government/political science, psychology, social work, counseling, and other related social or behavioral science courses may be used to satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement.

    Evaluation of Experience - Experience must have been gained in (1)casework in a correctional institution or in another criminal justice setting; (2) counseling in any setting, provided it required diagnostic or treatment planning skills to achieve specific social or occupational goals; or (3) work treating persons in need of social rehabilitation.

    AND

    In addition to the basic requirements, you must have:
    Education:
    GL-09: Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree OR master’s or equivalent graduate degree.

    GS-11: Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

    Graduate Education must have been in corrections or a related field, such as criminal justice, sociology, psychology, counseling, social work, or other course work related to the position.

    OR

    Experience:
    GL-09 and GS-11:You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

    Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
    GL-09:
    Experience to collect data and conduct research used for institutional reports.
    Experience to present information to a supervisor, peer/s or small group in a formal or informal setting.
    Experience with establishing and maintaining relationship with others by scheduling a meeting.
    Experience with collecting information during an internal/external audit.

    GS-11:
    Experience to deliver and coordinate offender skill building programs and reentry initiatives.
    Experience to evaluate offender programs and recommend strengthen strategies.
    Experience to identify and analyze statistical data relative to offender programs.
    Experience with establishing and maintaining a working relationship with others (groups and individual) that fosters volunteers and collaborative participation.

    OR

    Combination of Education and Experience:
    GL-09 and GS-11:Combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. This experience must have equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the major duties of this position as described above.

    Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview, urinalysis, physical, and background investigation.

    All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.

    The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score of 68 must be obtained. Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score. Note: The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees.

    Successful completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques", three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.

    Additional selections may be made if vacancies occur within the life of the certificate.
