 SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision from employee of higher grade. SCHEDULE:40 hrs per wk, 2nd shift , 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, every other weekend and holidays
  EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Performs interviewing work of a specialized nature relating to the pre-admissions, admissions, and discharge of ED records
Inputs and administers charges for services utilizing appropriate guidelines
Counsel patients on insurance coverage and billing procedures
Contacts the relevant sources (insurance companies, HMOs, the third parties etc.) to obtain insurance verification data and pre-certification approval for admissions
Maintains up-to-date information on various insurance policies
Collects co-pay and valuables, prepares receipts and makes deposits adhering to University and State guidelines
Process ED records and enter billings (codes, diagnosis, verifying information, batching, totals etc.)
Response to inquiries from other parties (i.e. patients, insurance companies, central administration) regarding admission data, including billing inquiries
Performs other related duties incidental to the position
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of bookkeeping
Computer skills
Knowledge of the principles and practices of clinic office management
Ability to interpret Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance industry regulation
Good interpersonal skills, oral and written communications skills
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of patient interviewing
Knowledge of the relevant hospital/department, insurance and Medicare policies and procedures including Billings and credit policies and procedures
Ability to schedule and prioritize workflow
 EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three (3) years of experience in an ambulatory care, emergency department or customer service setting and previous experience with insurance requirements.

SUBSTITUTION:
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of one (1) year.
