Graphic Design Specialist designs and produces graphic art and visual materials for print and digital media. Ensures that layout and design are aligned with brand and production standards and follow best practices. Being a Graphic Design Specialist creates and executes design solutions and collateral used for marketing, advertising, sales, and other forms of communication. Coordinates with customers and stakeholders to conceptualize and deliver projects on time and budget. Additionally, Graphic Design Specialist experienced using a variety of design and editing tools and software such as Adobe. To assist in the design and production of vendor ready materials for use on campus and throughout the community. To create digital graphics using original designs, digital stock art, and photography. To research (via media and the internet) current and emerging trends in design and technology and incorporate into MCC materials. To provide graphic design expertise and software assistance to Marcom and McLennan faculty and staff members. This position receives general supervision from the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications and exercises no supervision. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge of: 1. Elements of attractive design; 2. Fundamentals of effective visual communication; 3. Disciplined brand management; 4. Marketing and advertising methodology; 5. Print production, prepress, and print publishing; 6. Digital production and digital publishing; 7. Practical web design and intuitive user interface; 8. Contemporary trends in art and design; 9. Current requirements of accessibility law and how to meet them; 11. Basic video-editing software, operating video equipment, video and photo composition. Skills in: 12. the field of graphic design; 13. Usage and mastery of the following programs: Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite; 15. Hands-on customer service experience with clients to discuss project details and help manage any changes or concerns; 16. Excellent time management; Ability to: 17. Design and produce quick-turnaround print and digital materials; 18. Develop, critique, and edit visual designs for a multitude of platforms and usage; 19. Effectively prioritize projects to keep them on schedule and assist in projects to meet the college and team’s goals; 20. Understand and follow oral and written instructions; 21. Communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with the campus community and public; 22. Operate digital SLR camera and computer/photography software; 23. Coordinate relationships with vendors; 24. Preparing specifications and obtaining estimates for final approval; 25. Handle copyright, reprint, and permissions processes.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Associate Degree or certificate in Graphic Design from an accredited college or university
Experience: More than one year of work experience, including graduate work and internships.
