The UI Specialist brings the Harper College website (harpercollege.edu) to life through the development and continual improvement of innovative digital interfaces and experiences. This position collaborates with multidisciplinary team members and partners across the college to create engaging, impactful and efficient web experiences that are accessible for all users. The UI Specialist is responsible for: 1) advancing the Harper brand standards across digital spaces 2) coordinating the consistent use of design elements, such as colors, typography, spacing, iconography across Harper digital spaces. 3) Developing engaging interactive features. 4) Working with photographers to plan, produce and implement up-to-date photography throughout the website. 5) Contributing to ongoing web accessibility initiatives. User Interface
Creates visual designs and layouts for pages, features, modules and other assets on the Harper website, consistent with the college’s mission and core values, brand guidelines, and project objectives.
Presents creative ideas, concepts, and finished work to campus clients.
Consults on styling for vendor applications and digital displays on Harper’s campus.
Visual Content
Works with photographer to procure home page lead image (updated monthly) and refresh images on pages throughout the site.
Coordinates and maintains a website pattern library – a set of standards and examples for layouts, styling and visual elements, such as icons, arrows, patterns, textures, boxes, buttons, etc. to ensure their consistent usage across the site.
General
Assists with the general maintenance of the Harper College website, including performing routine updates and handling client requests.
Assists with digital accessibility initiatives, including WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and PDF mitigation and removal.
Works with and mentors student employees.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Associate degree with study in web design, graphic design, visual arts, or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience Requirements:
1-3 years of relevant work experience required.
Portfolio of visual work examples required.
Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS required.
Experience working with a digital asset management (DAM) system preferred.
Experience working with a content management system (such as Wordpress) preferrred
Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
Must demonstrate understanding, empathy and respect for the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, abilities, and aspirations of Harper’s user audience.
