Grinder operates grinding machines to assemble products and product parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of attachments to grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc. on to surfaces. Being a Grinder requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Grinder works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. POSITION SUMMARY
• Responsible for working in a grinding production
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set-Up, adjusts, and operates reciprocating or rotary wheel table-type surface grinders on more than one machine at a time.
• Work must conform to exacting tolerances with allowances made for effects of temperature and aging of materials.
• Able to perform shop math and calculations as necessary to complete assigned tasks
• Know different tooling and how to install them.
• Maintains tooling to perform at maximum efficiency
• Cleans machine and coolant tanks
• Follows established company policies
• Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• High school diploma or GED
• 2-4 years in grinding
• Could require intermittent long periods of sitting, standing and/or walking
• Periodic lifting of materials not to exceed 40 pounds
• Intermediate skill level using surface, cylindrical, Blanchard, centerless, and form grinders
• Intermediate competency using micrometers, indicators, calipers, Indi-square
• Ability to understand blueprints
• Ability to hold ±0.0001” dimensional, parallel, perpendicular, and flatness tolerances
• Experience using G & M code
• Ability to true-up grinding wheels
• Previous experience grinding hard materials (glass, ceramics, carbides)
