Grinding and Polishing Worker, Hand sets-up and operates automatic machines that cut, grind, or polish glass products such as glass tubes or glassware. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Grinding and Polishing Worker, Hand may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Grinding and Polishing Worker, Hand relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
1. Check for product defects while assembling partitions, displays, or export containers
2. Perform functional set-ups (fold / score / assembly) for products as required
3. Recognize the different jobs and requirements of each product/job, partition, display, or other
4. Have stock ready (partitions, containers, cartons, pallets)
5. Inspection, counting, bundling of products or materials
6. Perform housekeeping tasks (sweeping and cleaning of the work area)
7. Other duties as assigned.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Protective safety glasses, steel toed
shoes, safety reflective vests, are always required. Hearing protections (earplugs) are machine/equipment specific.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally but not constantly. This job requires some (rarely) stooping, twisting and turning, simple grasping and power grasping, wrist and hand motions including gripping, and standing on your feet all day. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Most of the work is inside the plant with occasional work (<1% of the time) outside. The plant is chilly in the winter (above freezing) and is hot in the summer (non-air conditioned). The plant is generally clean of debris and clutter, but the manufacturing process generates a fair amount of corrugated dust. There are not any hazardous materials in the Hand Assembly area.
