Direct Support Professional Job Description:

A Direct Support Professional, cares for individuals experiencing developmental or intellectual disabilities. Their main duties include helping members complete basic housekeeping tasks, transporting members to appointments or other social outings and keeping members safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment.

Direct Support Professional duties and responsibilities

Direct Support Professionals work with individuals with mental or developmental disabilities by creating behavior plans, teaching self-care skills, cooking meals and doing laundry.

Additional duties may include:

• Assisting members with daily personal tasks, including bathing and dressing
• Completing housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, washing dishes and tidying
• Helping plan members appointments and organize a schedule.
• Participating in and implementing Individual Support Plans
• Organizing with transportation arrangements to appointments
• Shopping for groceries and preparing meals that meet specific members dietary needs.
• Encouraging member engagement in social networks and communities

Minimum Qualifications:

• Applicants must be age 18 or older.
• Flexible Schedules-Applicants should be able to work at least 2 late afternoons per week (Monday-Friday) to provide care during after-school hours. (morning and daytime shifts are also available, but there is greater need for afternoon/early evenings and weekends.)
• Preferred applicants will have at least 3 months of overall experience regularly caring for another individual. (Outside of his/her own family)
• Care of Children is also preferred but not required.
• Experience with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
• Staff are expected to provide their own transportation to commute to and from client homes around the valley.

Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
• CPR, and first aid certification.
• Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Completion of a criminal background check.
• Valid driver’s license, own reliable vehicle, and good driving record.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $19.00 per hour
