Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Grounds Manager, the Groundskeeper performs grounds maintenance for the University, ensuring the campus grounds are a safe and pleasant environment.
Responsibilities
- Use of small garden tools and equipment, small power hand tools, and large and small mechanized equipment to carry out all aspects of grounds maintenance, including but not limited to:
- Pruning including trees, raking, weeding, mowing, planting
- Maintenance and repair of natural turf including fertilizing, verticutting, rototilling, aeration, seeding, sodding, and top-dressing
- Maintenance and repair of synthetic turf including debris collection and grooming
- Maintenance and repair of stormwater drainage systems
- Installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Maintenance and repair of fencing systems
- Safely scaling ladders and working at heights up to thirty feet
- Understand concepts of and implement integrated pest management practices as directed including appropriate use of pesticides. Maintain garden, Irrigation and pesticide equipment and tools in a clean, safe and organized manner.
- Maintain grounds vehicles and equipment including knowledge of gas, diesel, and gas/oil mix engine operation and maintenance practices to ensure proper and safe operation and maximize their useful life.
- Basic knowledge of vegetation characteristics including plant, grass, and weed identification
- Work safely in adverse weather conditions as necessary
- Subject to being called to campus for emergency situations or assigned to work for special events outside of normal working hours
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of two years of experience with safe operation and maintenance of power garden equipment
- Ability to understand and follow directions in English
- Current drivers license and satisfactory driving record is required and must be maintained.
- Must have ability to lift and carry materials up to 60 LBS and backpack equipment weighing up to 50 LBS
Additional Position Information
