Groundskeeper cuts and maintains lawns and grass. Rakes leaves and cares for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Being a Groundskeeper determines the appropriate plants or shrubs for walkways or garden areas. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons. Additionally, Groundskeeper is responsible for snow and dirt removal. Keeps the grounds and environment of a facility in a clean, attractive, orderly, safe, and healthy condition. Operates light trucks and assorted power equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment. May require horticultural training. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Groundskeeper works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Summary Statement
The incumbent in this position provides grounds keeping services and routine maintenance work on the Herman Holloway campus and for the State Service Centers in the Northern Region.
Essential Functions

- Performs under close supervision routine maintenance of lawn, flowers, shrubs and trees involving planting, transplanting, weeding, mulching, pruning, mowing and trimming.
- Removes snow / ice from driveways, steps and walkways; rakes leaves; removes trash, debris, materials and supplies.
- Assists in the maintenance of driveways by sweeping, grading and repairing holes; painting and repairing tables and benches.
- May assist trades personnel in painting, minor repairs as required.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand tools including mowers, tractors, saws, sprayers, edgers, grass shears and trimmers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Groundskeeper I
Applicants must have education, training and / or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas :
Knowledge of operating groundskeeping or landscaping equipment such as mowers, tractors, saws, sprayers, pruners, edgers, grass shears and trimmers.
