Job Description

Selling used cars is a primary source of revenue for franchised car dealerships. Having the right person overseeing that operation is critical. Our used car manager will acquire the right vehicles, get them reconditioned, set sales objectives, and motivate staff to sell them to consumers at the right price.

Responsibilities

• Establishes recommended unit sales and dollar gross profit objectives for the daily operating control
• Establishes department operating procedures
• Prepares and administers budget for department
• Establishes and supervises effective training programs for departmental employees
• Advises and informs all employees of dealership policy
• Attends auctions and stays abreast of used vehicle wholesale and retail prices
• Recommends compensation plans to Dealer
• Conducts employee performance reviews annually
• Establishes standards for recruiting and selection of used vehicle department personnel
• Administers the expense control program for department
• Organizes and directs sales meetings
• Counsels and trains the sales force
• Reviews management procedures with salespersons
• Establishes sales objectives for salespersons
• Approves sales contracts and assists in closing
• Reviews advertising and promotional plans with salespersons
• Establishes prospecting system and monitors
• Prepares forecasts for daily operating control
• Establishes standards for appraising and performs the appraising function

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
• One year of used-vehicle sales experience
• Broad knowledge of all types of vehicles
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Valid in-state driver’s license
• Professional personal appearance
• Excellent communication and managerial skills
