Groupware Specialist oversees the development and deployment of the organization's groupware initiative. Defines business requirements and selects collaborative software to meet these requirements. Being a Groupware Specialist implements hardware or software, troubleshoots, and may train end-users. Typically oversees internet access, document sharing, email or other messaging systems. Additionally, Groupware Specialist coordinates with end-users to define needs or areas for improvement. Ensures that all updates or upgrades are appropriately integrated into existing networks. Provides technical support, troubleshooting and training on groupware systems and makes suggestions regarding future groupware needs. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Groupware Specialist typically requires 7+ years of related experience. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate, or equivalent. Higher pay based on higher degree.
2. Prefer formal technical training experience.
3. Experience with diagnosing, repairing and solving computer hardware, printer and software problems.
4. Experience with the configuration and operation local area networks, servers, network adapters, hubs and switches. Addressing, TSU/DSU devices is desirable.
5. Extensive knowledge of Internet applications, database applications, HTML and programming is preferred.
6. Experience with office automation applications, Email, Microsoft Office products or similar software is preferred.
7. Prefer experience with student management applications and educational software.
8. Possess a valid Alabama Driver's License.
9. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statues and State Board of Education regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 . Diagnose and solve campus network issues, PC computer hardware and software problems.
2. Assist with the technical and operational issues of the Student Management and Library application software.
3. Assist with the installation of new computer equipment and software.
4. Communicate effectively with school faculty and staff to describe maintenance procedures, to provide understandable instructions, and to describe features oi the school's computer systems.
5. Perform routine maintenance on computer systems (cleaning, testing, alignment, etc.).
6. Perform repairs and upgrades in accordance to manufacture suggested guidelines (installing software, software upgrades or patches, replacing disk drives, circuit boards/adapters and other peripheral devices).
7. Install and configure of network related equipment, cables and communication devices.
8. Assist with the collection of data for the district office and state reports.
9. Follow Director instructions and perform all task assigned.
10. Process and update technical work orders.
1 1 . Execute all other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology.
12. Supervise computer technicians and management of work requests for technical assistance or hardware problems.
13. Supervise and manage the installation and configuration of local area networks and wide-area networks, including fileservers, switches, and routers.
14. Responsible for establishing security features for network environment.
15. Supervise and manage Internet access for school district including configurations for workstations, fileservers, routers, and switches.
16. Supervise NetWare Directory Services for school system's local and wide area-networks.
17. Supervise and manage E-mail access for school district employees.
18. Troubleshoot equipment and effect repairs for hardware and software problems associated with network.
1 9. Provide technical advice and assistance on computer hardware and software needs to all faculty and staff.
20. Work cooperatively with the Director of Technology in the areas of acquiring and implementing new technologies and the development of training modules for effective use of technologies by faculty, staff, and students.
