HR Data Supervisor supervises the deployment and administration of operational processes used to deliver HR programs and projects. Collaborates with stakeholders to provide consultation, process design, and project management of HR program implementations and initiatives like compensation, benefits, performance management, or training. Being an HR Data Supervisor delivers scalable methodologies and tools to optimize HR operations and streamline core processes like onboarding, hiring, terminations, retirements, timekeeping, and others that make up the employment life-cycle. Oversees employee data management processes to ensure that data is secure and maintained consistent with company policies and privacy regulations and that required reporting and filings are delivered. Additionally, HR Data Supervisor evaluates, selects, and manages HR process outsourcing vendors and contracts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The HR Data Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be an HR Data Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Dept Marketing Statement
    Comprising diverse researchers from a variety of disciplines across academic divisions, the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute (GI) leads UC Santa Cruz's efforts to unlock the world's genomic data and accelerate breakthroughs in health and evolutionary biology. The Genomics Institute involves approximately 90 personnel, participating in projects supported by funds from the federal and state governments, private gifts and foundations; in addition the GI provides funding support for approximately 50 additional personnel for GI related projects.     Job Overview

    Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced data management professional with full understanding of industry practices to resolve complex and wide ranging issues. Applies knowledge of basic biology to interpret genetic variants, and analyzes data files from next generation sequencing pipelines.     JOB DUTIES
    70% - Data Import, Analysis, and Display:
    • Utilize software tools to import complex biomedical data into UCSC databases and web pages, check it for consistency and lead analysis and interpretation. Use existing algorithms, techniques, and statistical methodologies to manage and perform complex assignments. Implement changes to operational systems and databases.
    • Develop scripts that help analyze metadata to ensure its consistency and accuracy.
    • Create and maintain web pages associated with data sets. Accurately capture and document experimental results and methods at an appropriate technical level.
    • Main currency in genomics science. Advise leadership in current issues and publications in this area.

    30% - Project Management:
    • Collaborate with other UCSC staff and external partners to clarify and communicate deliverables for one or more data systems projects.
    • Organize project activities to achieve deliverables on schedule and within budget constraints.
    • Independently develop full data/information documentation for complex small and medium-size projects.
    • May supervise other staff and/or student employees.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Familiarity with data model patterns in computational biology.
    • Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion.
    • Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
    • Thorough knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards.
    • Thorough knowledge of relevant rules and regulations controlling access to sensitive data.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated effective oral communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
