HVAC Mechanic jobs in Washington, DC

HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Duties of a HVAC Mechanic

    The HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for all preventative maintenance and repair on
    all site HVAC systems. Duties will include:

    • Diagnose causes of problems and/or failures in heating and air conditioning
      systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or
      replacement needs;
    • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems for the purpose of
      ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC systems;
    • Repair heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (pumps, motors,
      air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work
      environment and maintaining operational readiness;
    • Inspect HVAC systems and their components (heating units, exhaust fans,
      ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating their condition, identifying
      necessary repairs, and recommending preventive maintenance; and
    • Install heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of
      providing enhanced and upgraded capabilities.

    Qualifications for the HVAC Mechanic Position

    • Minimum of 5 years HVAC and associated equipment experience at commercial,
      industrial, or government facilities;
    • EPA Universal Refrigerant certification;
    • US Citizenship is required;
    • High school diploma or equivalent;
    • CLEAN background history to acquire a Government clearance in a timely manner;
    • Certification at the Journeyman or Master level is preferred; and
    • Experience at a Government facility is a plus but not required.
