Being an HVAC Supervisor conducts quality testing and inspections. May authorize equipment, supplies, parts, or repairs purchases. Additionally, HVAC Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. Requires an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a manager. The HVAC Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be an HVAC Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     The Opportunity
    WSDOT Northwest Region (NWR) is currently seeking a highly skilled journey-level individual to fill the role of Maintenance Mechanic 4 (MM4) and join our Facilities Maintenance team in Shoreline. This senior specialist position will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on a variety of building systems, with an emphasis on HVAC, energy management and environmental control systems. The appointee of this position is expected to consider personal, co-worker, and public safety as first and foremost objective during the planning and performance of all activities in connection with work assignments.
     
    What to Expect
    Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Mechanic 4 will:
    • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of HVAC, EMS, and BAS Systems in regional facilities and on various sites.
    • Instruct skilled and semi-skilled workers in performing repairs of HVAC, EMS, and BAS Systems.
    • Repair or replace furnaces, control valves, rooftop units, heating units, and other equipment related to building environmental controls.
    • Monitor building set points remotely using web enabled monitoring systems to discover abnormalities and energy saving opportunities, adjusting as necessary.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, plans, manuals, and specifications.
    • Safely operate tools, machinery, and equipment, such as hand tools, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, and other motor vehicles at heights above 50 feet.
    • Operate a service vehicle to visit multiple worksites and transport tools used to perform job functions.
    • Work with and around hazardous conditions such as, loud noises, high voltage electricity, high elevations, and confined spaces.
    • Supervise other maintenance staff assigned.
     
    Qualifications
    To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Four (4) years of experience as Journeyperson status in HVAC trade.
    • EPA Class 2 or EPA Universal Refrigeration license within 6 months of employment. 
    • Ability to work in hazardous conditions such as loud noise, heat, cold, vibrations, high voltage, electricity, elevations, and confined spaces. 
    • Ability to operate and work from motor vehicles, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, and man lifts at heights greater than 50 feet.
    • Ability to occasionally work beyond scheduled shift, be on stand-by duty, or be called in for emergency situations. 

    It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
    • EL06 Electrical License or ability to renew expired license prior to hiring.
    • Graduation from an accredited trade school. 
    • Experience with Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC systems. 
    • Experience with HVAC controls, including, reading/writing code. 
    • Experience installing and repairing Honeywell Red Link systems. 
    • Building operators certification level 1. 
    • Blueprint reading experience.
    • Experienced equipment operator.

    • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions stationed in King County.
    • The salary for this position will also include an additional Assignment Pay of 10%.
    • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
