Oversees the installation of new units and replacement parts and ensures work is completed according to company, product, or engineering specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Supervisor conducts quality testing and inspections. May authorize equipment, supplies, parts, or repairs purchases. Additionally, HVAC Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. Requires an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a manager. The HVAC Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes.     Job Title: HVAC Mechanic Supervisor

    Department: Facility Operations and Maintenance

    Job Summary:

    Maintain, repair, install and operate boilers, refrigeration equipment, generators, air conditioning facilities, and all appurtenant equipment driven by steam, air, diesel, gas, water, or any other power-developing energy. This position also patrols, inspects and maintains all mechanical equipment to the end that the most economical and efficient results may be obtained. This position requires HVAC certification.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Manage and develop workload schedules for HVAC mechanics
    • Develop training and awareness program on HVAC technologies and best practices
    • Ensure all federal, state, and local statuary requirements are followed
    • Ensuring that business goals, deadlines, and performance standards are met in accordance with the the job site requirements

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Managing the workflow of their employees, creating team schedules and delegating tasks
    • Assessing the work performance of their employees and identifying areas that need improvement
    • Ensuring that business goals, deadlines and performance standards are met
    • Training and onboarding new hires to make sure they understand their roles
    • Setting goals for workers and making sure they comply with the company’s plans and vision
    • Recommend new employees to the human resources team based on an assessment of their performance
    • Reporting performance records and evaluations to HR and senior management
    • Schedule all work requests and staffing to complete request promptly
    • Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC systems
    • Installation, service, troubleshooting, and repairs including but not limited to; chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, hot/chilled water pumps
    • Tasks ranging from operation of systems to the examination and evaluation of equipment to determine needed repairs
    • Installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and other components in accordance with design specifications
    • Charges refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas tests for leaks
    • Starts unit and adjusts it for proper cut-in and cut-out of refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps
    • Adjust systems for optimal performance
    • Maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance and determining problems
    • Installs, maintains and repairs the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment from the safety switch throughout the equipment
    • Installs, maintains, repairs, operates all types centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air-conditioning systems; also all types of pneumatic/electro-mechanical temperature controls, chillers and boilers
    • Performs necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Ability to read blue prints, sketches, and specifications pertaining to air conditioning and refrigeration systems; to follow oral instructions; to use shop mathematics; to lay out work
    • Requires broad trade knowledge of mechanical principals on standard shop methods of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade
    • Ability to interpret and develop technical reports
    • Able to operate testing equipment for the systems; to use all tools and equipment necessary to this trade; to follow standard methods and procedures for the most part, but on occasion to have the ability and knowledge to perform the unusual and difficult operations
    • Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
    • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
    • Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite

    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • At least two years of related experience required
    • Experience and/or certification in one or more predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasound, etc.)

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
      Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
    • Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
    • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
    • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

    Special Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
    • Must have EPA certification per CFR part 82f (Universal preferred) for servicing and recovery of refrigerants
