Hand Compositor/Typesetters sets type by hand and machine. Assembles type and cuts in galley for printing articles, headings, and other printed matter. Being a Hand Compositor/Typesetters determines type size, style, and compositional pattern from work order. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Hand Compositor/Typesetters may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. SFI has immediate openings for Ground Hands to perform aerial and underground outside plant construction and repairs. The Ground Hand role is an entry-level position to learn a skilled trade in the telecommunications industry! The ideal candidate has working knowledge of hand tools, must be comfortable with heights, able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift 80 lbs. repeatedly and learn to safely climb with the use of pole climbing gaffs/spikes. Cable, Phone, Fiber, Utility, or a related field. OSP and ISP experience are a plus, but not required. Some travel is necessary.
