Job Title: Ranch Hand - Temporary
Department: Maintenance - Ranch located north of Custer, MT
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt - Temporary

SUMMARY
Ranch located north of Custer, MT. Position would assist Ranch Manager and Maintenance Supervisor in daily duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. *Indicates the non-essential duties and responsibilities. Nothing in this job description restricts St. Labre’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
- Assists supervisor in all dealings with outside vendors, consultants, and service personnel.
- Performs all aspects of livestock/buffalo care and management.
- Inspects and repairs fence, windmills, watering troughs, and feed containers.
- Feeds cattle supplemental food during shortage of natural forage.
- Feeds and waters animals according to schedules.
- Examines animals for signs of illness and treats them according to instructions.
- Performs sound pasture management and practices.
- Maintains security of ranch premises.
- Maintains all farm/ranch equipment, repairing as necessary.
- Submits monthly reports to supervisor regarding work time/hours, current issues, previous progress, and future events or projects.
- Maintains grounds by keeping them orderly and clear of trash and other debris.
- Ensures all equipment is safe for staff to perform various tasks as needed. ( corrals, cat walks, gates shoots, loading ramps etc.).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to safely handle all types of livestock.
- Ability to operate equipment and fight range fires.
- Ability to operate various types of farm machinery and heavy equipment; i.e. Tractor/loader, swather, bailer, road grader, skid-loader.
- Respects the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in private, personal, and public life.
- Commitment to the mission of the Roman Catholic Church in Native American education.
- Sensitivity to, and appreciation of Native American people and their cultures.
- Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for students.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Montana Driver's License required.
