Hand Compositor/Typesetters sets type by hand and machine. Assembles type and cuts in galley for printing articles, headings, and other printed matter. Being a Hand Compositor/Typesetters determines type size, style, and compositional pattern from work order. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Hand Compositor/Typesetters may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Deck Hand: Candidate needs to be comfortable working on the river in all weather conditions (Rain/sleet/snow/cold/hot). Good balance and sturdy footing is needed for a safe work day. Needs to have knowledge of equipment and perform duties assigned by pilots. Must know how to lay lines and build tow for barge transport. Must be able to follow instruction for tasks given and retain the information when the same tasks are needed in the future. Needs to be self-motivated and stay busy. Must be able to ride on Line boat 4-5 days every 2 weeks.
