Hardware Engineering Director directs and oversees all aspects of hardware engineering activities within an organization. Establishes policies and procedures that produce high-quality hardware products. Being a Hardware Engineering Director ensures all hardware engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established polices and objectives. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Hardware Engineering Director typically reports to top management. The Hardware Engineering Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Hardware Engineering Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The Director of Hardware Engineering will be a part of the Hardware team and lead a team of Hardware and Firmware Engineers on current and next generation product development. 



    Key Responsibilities

    • Drive hardware device architecture and roadmap across company. Ensuring hardware meets the needs of executive team, supply chain team, customer success team, field team, product teams and software teams.
    • Fully own technology transfer to manufacturing, resolving all manufacturability issues, manufacturing testing development, process development and documentation.
    • Drive proof of concept hardware development and develop business and usage cases for next generation technologies. 
    • Drive the resolution of all customer and field team hardware issues including tracking and monitoring installation and customer issues leading the root cause investigations through the final technology implementation.
    • Drive the development of next generation hardware products.
    • Lead a multi-functional team of 6 hardware and firmware engineers, ensuring all tasks are identified, executed, and completed  
    • Responsible for coordinating schedules and ensuring sufficient resources to meet deadlines, while maintaining successful budget execution.  
    • Personnel and Team Development: Developing and maintaining a team who are able to Develop, Integrate, and Verify Requirements  
    • Providing clear communication to both internal and external team members as well as executive management  



    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required; MBA or other Master’s degree is preferred but not required
    • 7 years' experience in hardware engineering
    • 4 years experience in PCB layout
    • 5 years' experience managing a team
    • Experience working with IoT devices
    • Experience working with firmware engineering teams, firmware engineering experience preferred - MAJOR PLUS
    • Extensive knowledge of board-level electronics and electrical systems
    • Demonstrated systems engineering full lifecycle experience
    • Strong team collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated experience as both a technical leader and individual contributor in systems integration (player coach)
    • Strong project management skills, certification(s) preferred but not required
    • Excellent technical writing, forecasting, and budgeting skills
