    The duties of the Store Manager position are to be performed by demonstrating and encouraging Northwest Hardware’s core values in order to achieve our vision of being the place that locals can rely on, and visitors must see.

    The Store Manager position is responsible for the complete day-to-day operation of the store. The Store Manager is responsible for maximizing store sales and profitability, along with minimizing expenses while ensuring that the store is optimally stocked and merchandised, and that every customer every time has an exceptional experience. The store manager is responsible for the growth and development of the management team and store associates.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Sales & Operations:

    • Drive store sales through exceptional customer service, creative merchandising, and operational efficiency
    • Review store walks with store management team and staff to identify opportunity areas and correct all issues with a sense of urgency by posting on all tasks on Dexter.
    • Monitor inventory levels in conjunction with inventory manager on a monthly basis to ensure store maintains required accuracy level.
    • Coordinate the overall daily supervision of retail staff to ensure that monthly sales performance goals are met, and company procedures are followed accurately.
    • Delegate daily workload among associates to meet merchandising and visual presentation standards.
    • Oversee the 90-day evaluation and monthly 1-2-1s process to provide feedback for improvement and growth opportunities. Assure all employee observations, zone checklists, and all best practices are conducted.
    • Responsible for setting merchandise plan to include monthly endcaps, hot zones, and seasonal flips and coordinates all merchandising on floor.
    • Participates in the MOD responsibilities and assures all management participates in MOD schedule.
    • Responsible for overall store calendar.
    • Responsible for scheduling of staff.
    • Responsible for hiring/firing of staff.
    • Ensure Staff follows Core Values.
    • Set all sale and monthly endcaps.
    • Manage and plan merchandising of store.
    • Completes monthly inventory counts, price changes, clip strips and resets.
    • Have a complete working knowledge of and willingness to use cash register/point of sale (POS), Time Clock software, inventory audits and outs, paint mixer, paint computer, key machine, ability to re-key locks, repair, and re-screen, and operate the forklift.
    • For disciplinary actions, thoroughly documents all conversations and actions for employee file. Works with the General Manager when terminating employees.

    Customer Service:

    • Promote Customer Service as the #1 Priority. This must be accomplished on a daily basis through coaching and observing employee’s performance and interactions on the sales floor.
    • Regularly promote and teach the concept of Core Values on the sales floor, leading by example and through coaching. Use huddles and store meetings as the venue to communicate concept.
    • Respond immediately to all customer complaints and resolve them within 48 hours.
    • Review all sales, inventory and ODBC reports and work with management team and support staff to improve store and assure goals are met.
    • Participate in all store meetings, managers meetings and trainings as required.

    Budgets and Payroll:

    • Monitor payroll on a weekly basis to ensure compliance with established budgets and take corrective measures, as necessary.
    • Control Overtime hours to meet budget.
    • Ensure all employees are current and correct in all systems with respect to position, pay, status, etc.

    Inventory Control:

    • Review retail inventory and overstock to reduce shrinkage, maintain appropriate stock levels, and ensure inventory reporting accuracy.
    • Be cognizant of internal and external theft and resolve any issues immediately. Ensure to make owner and support team aware of areas of concern.
    • Management should be actively seeking to control both internal and external theft by consistently looking for issues that may result in a financial loss for the company.

    Communications:

    • Through Dexter - keep store staff sufficiently informed about plans, projects, policies, and procedures, such that all staff members have an appropriate and positive level of buy-in to all levels of store operations.
    • Check communications received via email from corporate and/or customers throughout day.
    • Keep Support Staff aware of new or ongoing issues/problems.

    Personal Development:

    • Attend manager trainings and meetings.
    • Utilize IDP process to identify development goals and trainings.
    • Actively working on improving your overall management and communication skills.

    Coaching and Training:

    • Identify appropriate training for store associates and oversee all training requirements on a monthly basis for all associates (New-Hire orientation, on-the-job training, and
    • vendor training).
    • Hire, train and develop retail staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide performance feedback and recognize accomplishments.
    • Conduct store meetings as needed to communicate store/company goals and provide appropriate training to the staff.
    • Actively utilize coaching forms to ensure the staff upholds the Northwest Hardware Core Values
    • Utilize daily huddles to facilitate training topics and coach the staff.
    • Actively participate in the Core Values recognition program

    Safety Compliance and Housekeeping:

    • Maintain high level of housekeeping throughout the store, both inside and out.
    • Enforce safety policies and procedures; is a safety role model.
    • Create a culture of safety within the store to ensure all employees and customers are always safe.

    Additional Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • College preferred or vocational training.
    • Must have previous management experience and retail knowledge.
    • Technically skilled in basic computer knowledge and software (such as, Word, Excel, Email, internet research)
    • Must have good written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to provide motivation and leadership to employees store wide.

    Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

    • Place proper priorities on work to be done.
    • Have good concept of overall management responsibilities.
    • Keep well informed on facts important to management.
    • Fair and impartial in dealing with employees.
    • Communicate well with others and work well as part of a retail team.

    • High degree of analytical skills, and the ability to delegate and be self- directed.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills
    • Be technically proficient in using Paladin Software and have a fundamental understanding of how information flows through the system.
    • Possess a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn. At least 3 to 5 years of managerial and supervisory experience in business management.
    • Develops and maintains client relationships and strategic partnerships throughout the organization: including employees, management staff, other organizations, external HR professionals and the public.
    • Always polite and attentive to customers and staff.
    • Dress appropriately and according to company policy.
    • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the business.
    • Store managers are required to work 45-50 hours a week and are compensated in their salary for such hours.

    Physical Demands:

    • Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically.
    • involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
    • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing up to 30 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 50 lbs. Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance.
