    Job Summary
    This position reports to the Director of Athletics and Recreational Services. The incumbent directs the athletic training program for Intercollegiate Athletics and oversees the training room. The incumbent collaborates with coaching staffs to help subordinates create conditioning, weight training and nutrition programs for athletes. Coordinates medical coverage for athletic events. Manages Athletic Trainers/Physical Therapists in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Determines, with advice from doctors, when and at what level an athlete can return to participation in a sport. Provides feedback to the Director of Athletics and the administrative staff regarding athletic training departmental operations, including the development and implementation of department policies, processes and procedures for the athletic training/strength and conditioning area.
    Qualifications
    Athletic Training
    • Plan, implement and administer a college-wide program for the prevention and care of athletic injuries.
    • Coordinate workouts for intercollegiate athletic programs with Coaching staff of each sport during in-season, out-of-season, and summer months.
    • Carry out an ongoing injury prevention program through conditioning, safety checks and formal and informal instruction of athletes in injury prevention techniques, diet and nutrition, and the like.
    • Directs the athletic training program to include physical evaluation and treatment services to student athletes in high-impact, high-intensity and/or large sports prone to extensive and/or chronic injury; provides a comprehensive range of care, including operation of therapeutic devices and equipment, first aid application, customized fitness/nutrition/conditioning plans, and rehabilitation and medical referrals.
    • Confer with the Athletic Director, Sport Supervisors, Coaches and support staff creating collaboration in developing conditioning, weight training and nutrition programs for athletes. Advises coaching staff as to daily medical status of injured players. Provides daily report to coaches and sport supervisors of injury status and limitations/capabilities for practice and competition.
    • Provides medical coverage including attendance for the incumbent and staff at all home varsity athletic contests and practices, and arranges for athletic training coverage at all away contests.
    • As part of the Athletics Administrative Team, develops and implements policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning, projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals. Assists the Athletic Director and Area Supervisor in the annual budget planning, requesting and encumbering process and regularly monitors expenditures.
    • Directs and oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
    • Serves as a liaison between physicians, administrators, coaches, parents, and student athletes regarding injury prevention, diagnosis, care, management, treatment, rehabilitation and claim submission.
    • Oversees daily management of training room, athletic billing, maintaining medical files, inventorying supplies and equipment, and scheduling follow-up appointments with medical providers, diagnostic testing, and professional consultations.
    • Manages and maintains permanent, major and minor injury and treatment reports in accordance with university and athletic department regulations.
    • Maintain health records in Healthy Roster or any similar student athlete information systems.
    • Plans, schedules and communicates doctors’ appointments and assists with travel arrangements to coaches, sport supervisors and student athletes in a time that bests fits the injured student athletes schedule or physician’s schedule.
    • Oversees safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards.
    • Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
    Educational Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree required, at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
    • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
    Conditions of Employment
    • CPR Certified.
    • Must demonstrate ability to interact positively with student athletes, coaches, colleagues and the public; be a positive representation of Lincoln University Athletics.
    • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
    • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
    • Must maintain State of Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Practice Board License.
    • Must maintain certification from National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification.
    • Must maintain certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or certification by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA). Must maintain certification at appropriate level to meet the current and future levels as defined by the NCAA or the institution.
    • Out of state travel required.
    • The incumbent will work early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate student-athlete and coach’s schedules.
    Physical Demands
    Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
    Work Environment
    Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work. Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
