II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Provides entry level clerical assistance to the Librarian to ensure that students and teachers can effectively utilize available resources.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Highly Qualified
- Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment – Score 450; or
- Completed two (2) years (48 semester credit hours) from state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education; *Within the forty-eight semester hours, the para-professional must complete a total of 15 hours of general education requirements that include English Composition (3), English/Reading (6), and Mathematics (6). For the remaining 33 hours of coursework, acceptance of credit for a course shown on a transcript from and approved higher education institution is left to school district discretion in addressing the needs of the specific job. Discipline-specific electives may include as many as 12 hours of developmental (remedial) course; or
- Earned an Associate’s Degree from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education
- EXPERIENCE – 0 to 6 months of basic work experience
- SKILLS – Must be capable of working cooperatively with the professional staff and students. Basic organizational skills and the ability to handle basic office equipment are essential. Knowledge of the library management software and basic word processing/spreadsheet programs is required.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS – This position requires sustained manual dexterity with close mental/visual attention and the ability to stand on a sustained basis.??????
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the management of instructional materials.
- Provides instructional support for students and teachers in using the media center.
- Provides basic secretarial and bookkeeping support for the media center.
- Conducts and maintains the media center’s circulation system.
- Operates instructional equipment and provides media production services.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
- Performs other services as required.
