Being a Head Cataloging Librarian creates metadata schema to ensure efficient workflow for metadata projects. Typically requires a master's degree. Additionally, Head Cataloging Librarian typically reports to top management. The Head Cataloging Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Cataloging Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The Hampton University William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library invites nominations and applications for the position of Cataloging Librarian.
The mission of the University Libraries which include the William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library, the Architecture Library, and the Music Library, is to support the instructional, research, and service needs of the Hampton University community. This is achieved through access and delivery of information services and resources that are essential to academic and teaching excellence, leadership, and lifelong learning.
The Cataloging Librarian will provide timely and accurate access to our collections through the creation and management of bibliographic and authority records for multiple resource types, physical and electronic, according to national and local standards. The position serves the cataloging needs of the university libraries, participates in projects, and engages with the university community.
