    Essential Job Functions:

    Performs administrative and professional library duties as well as providing direction and expertise in Children and Youth services. Supervises activities in Youth Department. Creates, implements, and presents youth programming, classes, and special events to meet the needs of the community. Plans, coordinates, and evaluates work of assigned library staff. Assists library patrons in the use of library services, facilities, and equipment. Provides prompt, courteous, and direct assistance to all patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services. Takes responsibility for enforcing library policies and procedures. Helps with daily financial management and budgeting responsibility. Provides leadership in assessing library needs based on use, experience, and trends; and creates plans and policies to adapt and improve library services. Assists with ordering materials in the assigned library collections. Maintains necessary statistics and generates reports as needed. Communicates the value of library services and collections to the public. Stays informed of current trends in public libraries and youth services.     Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of library administration is preferred.
    • Ability to plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate work of library personnel; establish and maintain rapport with the public and staff, working harmoniously in a team environment; plan, coordinate, and complete several projects at once; and operate a computer and other related technology with speed and accuracy.
    • Perform public speaking skills endorsing the library while engaging a diverse audience.

    Minimum Education & Experience:

    • A Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in a responsible, professional librarian position.
    • A Master’s degree in Library Science preferred.
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be specifically related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.

    Special Requirements:

    • Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant’s system as verified through a screening process administered by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
    • MUST BE ABLE TO WORK A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE INCLUDING EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS.
