Plans and directs training of student athletes, and assesses individuals' abilities and skill level to determine appropriate team position. Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills. Additionally, Head Coach (Major Sport) must be familiar with NCAA rules and regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in the related area. Typically reports to a institutional officer.     SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

    Coach in various secondary school interscholastic athletic programs


    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Promote sports in the schools and community
    • Plan the assigned athletic program
    • Organize and supervise practices
    • Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game
    • Teach good sportsmanship and self-control
    • Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent
    • Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance
    • Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes
    • Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of student athletes
    • Utilize Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as outlined at the school/district
    • Maintains regular and predictable attendance
    • Adheres to the professional code of ethics
    • Successfully utilizes technology as appropriate in job function
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Fundamentals of various sports
    • Health and safety regulations
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

    ABILITY TO:

    • Assist coaches on one or more sports
    • Understand and follow oral and written directions
    • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Any combination equivalent to: a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate, a minimum of 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university and one year of experience coaching in a school athletic program. (If hired, you must bring an original, sealed college transcript showing 64 hours or more if you are hired as a head coach. You must also bring a copy of your high school diploma.)
