Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills. Additionally, Head Coach (Major Sport) must be familiar with NCAA rules and regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in the related area. Typically reports to a institutional officer. Head Coach (Major Sport) is a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group.   • The University of Rio Grande is seeking a Head Coach of Football. After a 75 year hiatus, the RedStorm will return to the gridiron Fall 2025. As Head Coach, this highly motivated person will oversee the development and re-launch of the University's program which is expected to compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (NAIA).
    JOB SUMMARY:
    Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the football program. This individual will provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to student-athletes, assistant coaches, and support staff. The Head Football Coach is expected to uphold the values and mission of University of Rio Grande while fostering a culture of excellence both on and off the field.
    PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
    • Program Leadership:
      • Develop and implement a comprehensive football program that aligns with the university's athletic department and NAIA guidelines.
      • Establish short-term and long-term goals for the football program.
      • Lead and manage the coaching staff, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
    • Recruitment and Retention:
      • Identify, evaluate, and recruit talented student-athletes who fit the academic and athletic profile of the university.
      • Develop and maintain relationships with high school coaches, athletes, and other recruiting sources.
      • Implement strategies to support student-athlete retention and academic success.
    • Athlete Development:
      • Design and implement training programs to enhance the physical and mental skills of student-athletes.
      • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to improve performance.
      • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth among student-athletes.
    • Game Strategy and Management:
      • Develop and implement game plans, strategies, and tactics for each opponent.
      • Manage in-game decisions, including play calling, time management, and adjustments.
      • Analyze game footage and statistics to evaluate team performance and identify areas for improvement.
    • Compliance and Administration:
      • Ensure compliance with NAIA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
      • Manage the football program budget effectively.
      • Coordinate travel, scheduling, and other logistical aspects of the football program.
    • Community Engagement and Fundraising:
      • Engage with alumni, fans, and the local community to promote the football program and university.
      • Participate in fundraising activities to support the football program's needs.
      • Represent the university at athletic events, conferences, and other public engagements.
    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education required.
    • Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent.
    • Strong knowledge of football strategies, techniques, and rules.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to recruit and retain talented student-athletes.
    • Commitment to academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
    • Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations preferred.
