Head Coach (Minor Sport) oversees all activities of a minor athletic team. Plans and directs training of student athletes, and assesses individuals' abilities and skill level to determine appropriate team position. Being a Head Coach (Minor Sport) analyzes opposition team performance and capabilities and determines game strategy. Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills. Additionally, Head Coach (Minor Sport) must be familiar with NCAA rules and regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in the related area. Typically reports to a institutional officer. Head Coach (Minor Sport) is a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group.     License Qualifications:

     

                 NMPED Coaching License 

                               AND

                 Secondary Teaching License endorsed in one or more core subjects 

                               OR

                 K-12 Specialty Area License endorsed in one or more core subjects

     

    This is a teaching position with the addition of coaching.  Candidate must hold a valid teaching license.  Current teaching positions are listed at www.portalesschools.com at job opportunities.  However, the District will consider other teaching endorsements.

     

    Head Baseball Coaching experience is preferred.  Persons with at least 3 years as an assistant baseball coach will be considered.

     

    The Head Baseball Coach promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and baseball. The Head Coach provides leadership and supervision of the baseball program at Portales High School. The head baseball coach works closely with other staff and administration of Portales Municipal Schools. This person inherently assumes the responsibility and obligation of establishing and maintaining a quality athletic program that meets the high standards of the District. 

     

    The Head Baseball Coach receives a salary based upon teacher licensure and experience and the head coaching stipend.
