Head Nurse - CCU directs nursing service activities for assigned critical/coronary care unit patients. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and critical care unit staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of critical care unit patient clinical records, and writes reports on critical care unit staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - CCU maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - CCU typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - CCU manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - CCU typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     • Conducts complete physical, social, and environmental assessments on admission to identify patient needs and develop a plan of care, in conjunction with the physician, to achieve optimal patient care outcomes and rehabilitation.
    • Observe and assess patient's responses to nursing care, treatments, and patient teaching.
    • Provide education to patients and families on medications, health issues, interventions, and health strategies.
    • Helps to promote and ensure a safe home environment by working in close collaboration with all members of the health care team.
    • Plans for discharge with appropriate resources to ensure safety and well-being.
