Head Nurse - CCU directs nursing service activities for assigned critical/coronary care unit patients. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and critical care unit staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of critical care unit patient clinical records, and writes reports on critical care unit staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - CCU maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - CCU typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - CCU manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - CCU typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Responsibilities

    Job Summary:

    Medical Surgical Critical Care—This unit houses critical care patients needing ICU and PCU levels of care. With 24 large private rooms patients are provided a healing quiet space that allows for increased monitoring. Each room has full monitoring capabilities and is large enough to house pumps and ventilators without constricting the care team. ICU and PCU are both staffed using national standards of care. Ratios are 1:1 1:2 and 1:3.

     

    Essential Duties:

    • Provides continuous cardiac monitoring arrhythmia recognition and intervention. 

    • Initiates and titrates multiple complex cardiac related infusions at higher doses. 

    • Manages intubated/mechanically ventilated patients. 

    • Manages patients with acute neurological/neurosurgical events. 

    • Manages acute trauma patients.


    Qualifications

    Job Requirements: 

    • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing BSN preferred.

    • Previous PCU or ICU experience preferred. 

    • Previous Emergency room experience also considered

    • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing. 

    • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification. 

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or attainment within six months of hire. 

    • CCRN/Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) preferred.
