Head Nurse - CCU jobs in Olympia, WA

Head Nurse - CCU directs nursing service activities for assigned critical/coronary care unit patients. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and critical care unit staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of critical care unit patient clinical records, and writes reports on critical care unit staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - CCU maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - CCU typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - CCU manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - CCU typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     ELIGIBLE FOR CMH EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS: PRIORITY RECRUITMENT

    The CCU Staff Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her CCU assigned patients.  This includes assessment of patient needs, including life-threatening emergencies, development of a nursing plan of care, administration and evaluation of nursing care and supervision of others in the delivery of nursing care.

    Knowledge of /Skill/Ability to:  A thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedure; knowledge and skills in techniques of good patient care applicable to the critical care environment. Must be able to read and write English as well as speak and understand English. 

    License/Certification: 
    RN currently licensed with the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN), BLS required upon hire (through the American Heart Association), current ACLS certification or ability to obtain within six months days of hire and henceforth kept current. PALS/ENPC required within one year of hire and TNCC/TEAM required within 6 months of hire and henceforth kept current.

    Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with diploma, ADN, or BSN degree. Previous satisfactory acute care hospital experience of one-year preferred.  Previous satisfactory Critical Care experience relevant to the patient population of this unit or completion of an approved Critical Care course. CCRN preferred.  For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months, and have not previously completed a residency program will be required to complete the CMH-provided Nurse Residency program.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance 
    Works inside.  Walking and standing much of the time while on duty.  Long shifts and occasional overtime necessary.  Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers.  Normal or corrected vision is required.  Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in heartbeats, breathing, and monitor alarms.  Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment.  Subject to physical and emotional stress of fast paced work environment.  Occasional exposure to infectious diseases.  Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts.  Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs and ambulates as necessary.  Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8 – 12 hours (shift dependent).  Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs.
