Head Nurse - CCU directs nursing service activities for assigned critical/coronary care unit patients. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and critical care unit staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of critical care unit patient clinical records, and writes reports on critical care unit staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - CCU maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - CCU typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - CCU manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Job Summary:
Maintains shift accountability for the coordination and facilitation of the delivery of quality patient care on their unit. Encourages staff to achieve high performance standards through education and role modeling. Utilizes knowledge and expertise in participation of case management to provide comprehensive, coordinated, seamless care to patients and their significant others. Resolves conflicts on the Patient Care Unit and uses established conflict resolution techniques to steer and direct care team members towards an amicable solution. Manages Human and Material Resources effectively and efficiently. Directs staff in Performance Improvement activities that improve patient outcomes, patient satisfaction and enhances organizational efficiency.
