Head Nurse - Emergency Room directs nursing service activities in the emergency room. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and emergency room staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of emergency room patient clinical records, and writes reports on emergency room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Emergency Room maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Emergency Room typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Emergency Room manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Education
Graduate from an accredited and approved school of nursing accepted for licensure in the state of practice is required.
Bachelor’s of science in nursing is preferred.
Experience
Critical Care Nursing experience is preferred.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in state of practice is required.
Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are required based on the patient population in the specialty area worked.
Speciality certifications based on patient population such as Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) are preferred.
