JOB SUMMARY: Has principle responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient. Plans, provides and documents discharge planning, teaching and educates patients, family or others to attain optimal health and continuity of care. Assures that the plan of care is carried out in a safe environment through performance and supervision of subordinate personnel. Prepares patient for exam and/or procedure and assists the physician, evaluates the patients post procedure, and document findings. In the absence of a desk clerk, keep the desk free and clear of clutter, maintain the patient’s records with the appropriate forms and requested records and results and keep them accessible to the physicians. Participate in the daily operation of the department. Attend required in-service, yearly education, and mandatory department meetings. Assist in the collection of data for QAPI. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
a) Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing
b) Personal Job Related Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills.
c) Licensure, Registry or Certification: Registered nurse currently licensed by the
State of Texas. BCLS and ACLS. Nurse will have one year to get ACLS if the
nurse does not have when hired.
d) Prior Work Experience: One year (2-3 preferred) experience as a professional
registered nurse preferred.
e) Technical Training: Current CPR certification and ACLS.
f) Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended
periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and
lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting
patients who may suddenly become weak, helpless or combative.
SKILLS
Effective communication skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Good knowledge of emergency nursing and strong ability in performance of nursing procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Clean well-lighted, heated, and air-conditioned area. Exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, and occasionally to radiation possible. Work schedule is 12 hours shifts (7a-7p & 7p-7a). Full time 32-40 every week. Overtime dependent upon the need of the department. Holiday and weekend work required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Prolonged extensive or considerable standing and walking. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, and tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; bend, stoop, kneel or crouch; talk and hear and smell. Visual abilities required include close vision, depth perception ability to adjust focus and determine color.
