The purpose of this job is to provide technical support to sales personnel and customers, assist customers with applications and products complaints, and develop new products to meet customer requirements for Flame Retardancy in aqueous products for different industries.
he Chemist, as part of the group, would work closely with Manufacturing at our Calhoun, GA facility, Research and Development from our supplying sites, and Technical Sales for our Flame Retardant, Coated Fabrics and Industrial Coatings markets.
This position is responsible for ensuring that our high standards of exceptional quality of our products is adhered to.
Some Domestic travel is required for training purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned by Management or Leadership.
· Compound Flame Retardant additives and coating formulations for application testing or sampling.
· Application of formulated coatings by pad bath, knife-over, gravure or suitable method as intended for product usage or at customer direction.
· Testing to customer requirements of finished parts for physical properties, and flammability.
· Develop innovative approaches to modify existing formulations, simulate construction of customer parts, testing and scale up into production at different manufacturing locations, if necessary.
· Work with an interdisciplinary team locally, nationally and globally to support and promote development of Stahl FR chemistry and capabilities.
· Present and share findings with Technical Sales, Customer, internal R&D and Applications
· Responsible for the successful completion of Technical Service Request projects in a timely fashion, while following the department guidelines and priorities as set by the supervisor.
· Act as a resource for the Technical Service Group, Quality Control and Production
· Organizes and records all pertinent testing information in the laboratory project files as references for future use, and maintains all documents, prints or items generated from projects daily.
· Maintains a clean, organized, and orderly work area and laboratory space assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Plastic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
or other related sciences.
2 - 5 years of industrial experience including formulation of specialty coatings, color matching plant processing procedures, quality control test procedures and technical service.
The ability to handle many on-going projects at one time without close supervision. Strong communication and organizational skills are required to successfully interact with internal and external customers.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills are required.
SAP experience preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft office
