Head Nurse - Industrial directs nursing service activities in an industrial setting. Provides care to patients with emergency industrial accidents and surgery outpatients. Being a Head Nurse - Industrial plans and conducts training programs to promote employee health and safety in the workplace. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and industrial staff nurses. Additionally, Head Nurse - Industrial maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Industrial manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Industrial typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Head Nurse (N3)

    Summary - Under the supervision of a higher level professional nurse, incumbents of this position are responsible for the planning of nursing care, staff development, staffing patterns, implementation and maintenance of standards of practice, departmental philosophy and overall hospital objectives, on a 24-hour basis. Coordinates services provided by other departments to the nursing unit. May provide consultation to other nursing and health care professionals in the area of specialization. Work is subject to shift assignment over a 24-hour, 7-day per week period. Supervision is exercised over a number of professional, para-professional, clerical and clinical support staff.

    License, Certification, and Registration: Possession of a valid license and current registration, issued by the New York State Education Department, as a Registered Nurse.

    Training and Experience: either: (a) three years of nursing experience which must have included regular charge assignments; or (b) a Bachelor's degree* or Master's degree* in Nursing, and two years of nursing experience which must have included regular charge assignments; or (c) an equivalent combination of training and experience.
